Does the second part to this alien thriller still hit?

*Palladio

Horror/Thriller, 1 hr 37 min, R

Director: John Krasinski

What’s it about? Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.

If you enjoyed the first part, you will also enjoy the second part.

Bop or Flop? This film is definitely a bop, but it's stressful. Spoilers ahead. This was the first movie to make $100 million domestically since the pandemic began, and it was definitely worth seeing in theaters. The sound effects, the drama, the thrill... it was all there.

I love that the movie opened with a flashback unseen in Part I. Fir, I loved seeing John Krasinski as Lee Abbott one more time *tear*.

It was also good to see how the aliens first arrived and how chaotic the scene was. In particular, the scene where Evelyn (Emily Blunt) was driving the kids back home and had to back that thang up was raw as hell.

After Lee died, if I were Evelyn I would have simply given up on life. Raising two kids and a newborn all by myself? And we can’t make any noise? Nope.

I understood why Emmett (Cillian Murphy) didn't want the Abbott family staying with him when they came begging for shelter. He wasn't trying to compromise his safety. That bear trap he set was a bit much though.

Regan irritated me all throughout the first movie, and this one started the same. I was irritated that she never follows directions and usually seems to get herself into trouble.

However, Regan's deafness proved to be an advantage for the Abbott family at times because they already knew how to speak sign language. Regan being deaf is good representation, as it's important to see people with disabilities on screen. Plus, the actress, Millicent Simmonds, is deaf in real life.

In Part II, I do have to put some respek on Regan's name. This time, her wandering still got her into trouble, but it paid off. She had an idea about this island being a safe place that turned out to be right! But before they got there, we saw why Emmett had trust issues.

Regan had run off, and Evelyn begged Emmett to go find her. So Evelyn, the baby and the oldest son are still at Emmett's spot while Regan and Emmett end up getting into some trouble at the dock. These zombie ass people took them hostage. I was disturbed, but the dive scene was lit though.

Eventually, Emmett and Regan did make it to safety, but there was still an alien on the boat (the aliens can't swim). Now all the people who made it to the island, who had put the past behind them, gotta reignite their fears, and get back into survival mode quick. I was pressed! And of course all the Black men in this movie had to die (RIP Djimon Hounsou's character).

Another thing I loved about the movie was the parallel shots. In the last scene, Regan saves the day not just on the island, but for her family still in the bunker as well! I cried real tears!

I definitely don't want to live in this kind of world, but I am curious about a few things:

- Did the aliens invade the entire country/world? How many people are left on Earth?

- Did the National Guard or its equivalent try and save people but failed because they were too loud?

- How far can these aliens hear?

-How many aliens are there?

- How do the aliens survive? What do they live off of? They don't eat people after they kill them, they just seem to be extremely bothered by noise.

Overall, this was a FILM. Though John wasn't really with us onscreen, offscreen he did his thing. I love that John wrote and directed this film and had his wife as the star. Clearly, they work well together. Love to see it. This movie will probably will be recognized by award shows in some capacity, as it did with the first part.

*Syfy Wire* Her face was me through the entire film.

A Quiet Place Part II is in theaters now.
